Prof. Paulo Faustino, Journalism and Sciences Communication Department at Porto University
Prof. Paulo Faustino has an European PhD from Complutense University of Madrid (in cooperation with Jonkoping University, Sweden) and Post-Doctoral studies at Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities - Nova University of Lisbon (in cooperation with the Columbia Institute of Tele-Information at Columbia University - CITI – and is Senior Fellow at CITI). He is Professor co-founder, Director and President of Scientific Commission of the Master’s in Communication and Management of Creative Industries and professor at Journalism and Sciences Communication Department at Porto University. He was Chairman and current board member of the International Media Management Academic Association (www.immaa.org). Paulo Faustino teaches creative industries, entrepreneurship, media marketing, management, economics and public policies in Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programs in national and international universities, namely in Brazil, Switzerland and China.
He is member of the Executive Commission of the Opinion Council of RTP (Portuguese Television and Public Media Service Company); he is co-director, with Terry Flew, the JOURNAL OF CREATIVE INDUSTRIES AND CULTURAL STUDIES – JOCIS. He is founder and non-executive president of the Formalpress/Media XXI – Publishing & Consulting Company – www.mediaxxi.com. He was Visiting Researcher in several European and North American universities and completed Advanced Courses in Media and Entertainment Management (from the Anderson School of Management – University of California, Los Angeles) and Publishing Management (Stanford University¸ where he was a member of the Alumni Advisory Board), and Regulation Issues (from London School of Economic and Political Science).
Paulo Faustino was board member and co-founder of the European Association of Media Management Education (EMMA), as well part of the scientific board from relevant international academic events like World Media Economics Conference, for example. Previously, he worked circa 20 years in relevant positions in Media Industry and was consultancy for the State Secretary and Presidency Minister of the XV and XVI Constitutional Governments. Paulo Faustino has conducted consultancy work for several private and public institutions like, for example, the World Bank and the Portuguese Media Regulatory Entity; he was General Secretary of the Portuguese Media Confederation. He was also an executive board advisor at Lusomundo Media (former media group from the Portugal Telecom’s group); was Vice-President of the Portuguese Press Association, President of the Communication Observatory, and board member of the Centre for Professional Training in Journalism (Cenjor). He is the author and co-author of 12 books and 27 twenty scientific articles published in journals, as well as in book chapters. He is a member of the editorial board of the following 12 journals.
Paulo Faustino has taken part in several international conferences and courses as a teacher, speaker, chairman, moderator, and as part of round tables, in the following countries: Angola, Mozambique, Canada, EUA, Brazil, China, Switzerland, German, Serbian, Macao, Japan, United Kingdom, Hungary, Cape Green, Guinea Bissau, Spain, France, Greece, Poland, South of Africa and Australia. His research is focused on the Media and Creative Industries Studies, namely: Ownership Concentration, Public Policies, Economics, Entrepreneurships, Management and Marketing in Creative Industries and Media Business.
Luísa Ribeiro, PhD
Luísa Ribeiro is an Executive Director of RTP (Rádio e Televisão de Portugal), the Portuguese public media company with 8 television channels, 7 radio stations and a content app (RTP Play).
She is responsible for the departments of finance, human resources, engineering and systems, legal, commercial (including advertising and national and international distribution), procurement, planning and control and the second biggest production center (the North production center).
Her professional experience of over 30 years across several industries, include banking, private equity and venture capital, and technology, media and telecommunications.
Prior to joining the Executive Board of RTP, Luísa worked in fintech where she was Executive Director of ebankIT, a software house dedicated to omnichannel software for the banking industry in North America, Europe and Africa. In ebankIT Luísa was in charge for the areas of finance, investor relations, legal and marketing. Before, Luísa was a Partner of Pathena, a venture capital fund baked by the EIF (European Central Bank), where she helped to found a portfolio of IT and MedTech companies in Portugal, Germany and Finland.
Her experience in private equity dates to 1999, at Inter-Risco Fundo de Capital de Risco, an industry agnostic fund, the largest at the time in Portugal. Later, she was invited to be part of the founding team of the corporate venture subsidiary of Sonae (the biggest Portuguese conglomerate), having also participated in several mergers and acquisitions of the Sonae Group's software companies in the US, UK, Ireland, Germany, Hungary, Angola and Brazil.
With a PhD in Finance from the Faculty of Economics of Porto, and various executive training courses at international universities such as Insead and IMD, she has conducted fundamental research on the evolution of business models in the television industry, including the study of the impact of digital platforms on the traditional business of television. In her PhD and in her master’s in business sciences, she had the opportunity to study the sector, and has work published about cable television industry and television advertising.
Luísa loves intensive work but also appreciates quiet family moments, sprinkled with her favorite arts: music (classical, opera and jazz), theater and ballet.
